William van’t Hoff
Job Title: Consultant Paediatric Nephrologist
Dr William van’t Hoff is a Consultant Paediatric Nephrologist at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust. He trained at Guy’s Hospital, took an intercalated BSc in Clinical Pharmacology and held posts in Birmingham, Reading and Oxford before undertaking his MD thesis on a renal metabolic disorder, cystinosis. He has held MRC project grants and participated in EU Rare disease consortium programmes. His interest in paediatric medicines led to work with British National Formulary and with NICE on Unlicensed medicines, Chair of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health Medicines Committee and membership of the Health Research Authority Collaboration and Steering Group.
Dr van’t Hoff led a London-based NIHR Local Research Network and was National Co-Director of the NIHR CRN Medicines for Children Research Network 2009-2016. Since 2008 he has been Director of the Clinical Research Facility at Great Ormond Street Hospital. In 2016 he started as Clinical Director for NHS Engagement for the NIHR Clinical Research Network. In this role, he leads the strategy and coordination of the CRN’s approach to helping the NHS and Care recognise the importance of research in improving health. Working with the clinical leadership, patient involvement and communications teams, he is developing approaches to interact and influence at each level of the NHS. He is also working with key partners in research and care and has a specific focus on empowering patients to be able to discuss the importance of research.
