Catherine Blewett & Amanda Hunn from the HRA Confirmed as Speakers

The NHS R&D Forum are delighted to announce that Catherine Blewett, Senior Development Manager, and Amanda Hunn, Joint Head of Policy, from the Health Research Authority (HRA) will be speaking at RDF19. RDF19 The 2019 Annual NHS R&D Forum will be held in Brighton from the 12th to the 14th May 2019. Catherine will be talking about the Impact of BREXIT on Clinical Trials and Amanda will be taking part in a session about research in Social Care.

Job Title: Senior Development Manager

Biography:

Catherine is currently leading on the Combined Ways of Working programme for the HRA which aims to streamline the application process for CTIMPs across the UK. This programme of work is to ensure that the UK is prepared for the changes to the future regulatory landscape when the EU Clinical Trial Regulation applies. She has been leading on this work since 2015 and has presented at events in Copenhagen, Madrid, Brussels as well as the across the UK. She has worked for the HRA since 2011 managing the Research Ethics Service and also undertaking large scale projects for internal service improvement and internal as well as national policy development, including the RES Standard Operating Procedures and the UK Policy Framework for Health and Social Care Research, which replaced the Research Governance Framework. She has an academic interest in tissue and healthcare data research and is currently working on her PhD thesis which explores how access to tissue and patient information can be maximised for use in research within the existing regulatory framework.

Biography:

Amanda joined the HRA in 2012 and is now Joint Head of Policy. She started working in health research in 1989 with Boots Pharmaceuticals as Head of Business Information before moving to the Department of General Practice in 1995 at the University of Sheffield as a Research Fellow. She later took up the post of Director of R&D at the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield. Staying with the NHS, she became the regional manager of the National Research Ethics Service for Yorkshire & the Humber from 20012 to 2006. From 2007 to 2012 she worked as Head of Research and Evaluation for Tribal Health/ Capita Health before re-joining the NHS. She also served as a Research Ethics Committee member from 1997 to 2002.
